| Ebons are a race born of a black mold. When the spores of the mold land in a fresh corpse, they will grow throughout it and resurrect it. The result is an Ebon. Ebons are born with the same mental state as a newborn of their host. The host body would assume its prime condition, being youthful and healed. They do not inherently know their origins. Ebons appear as though they are silhouettes of their host body, as they absorb all visible light and nearly all other frequencies as well. They photosynthesize, so they do not need to eat. Drinking can be helpful, but they can also absorb water from the environment. They can regenerate any injury over time, including those that would normally be fatal to the host. As they provide energy via photosynthesis, blood is no longer required for an Ebon to live. Ergo, a severed Ebon head is just as much alive as it was when attached. However, it could not control the body until it grows a new attachment to it. The same idea applies to other severed limbs. To kill an Ebon, it is necessary to completely destroy the mold. If even a single spore remains, it will grow again. It will only grow into an Ebon again if the host body is still hospitable to it(i.e., not burned to a crisp, pureed, filled with chlorine, etc.). Ebons lack any sort of culture, as culture is a human(oid) element, and 90% of the Ebons are animals. Other facts: The reproductive systems of the host no longer function, however they will occasionally release spores. Ebons are immune to many poisons. Due to their moldy heritage, Ebons mutate/evolve quickly. This means that if they are exposed to an adverse environment, they can quickly adapt to it. For example, if they had daily encounters with a fire-wielding mage, they would soon become highly resistant to fire. If they were exposed to the cold too much, they would produce more sodium to avoid freezing. They could not, however, become immune to mundane weapons. Cutting them up wouldn't evoke enough natural selection amongst the mold part to evolve it. The same goes for blunt force and stabbing. Although there may be extenuating circumstances. In order for an organism to become an Ebon, the mold must reach its nervous system. If the mold should seed in only part of the organism(i.e. a dead limb) it will only grow as mold. Infiltration of the nervous system is necessary. | |

| Seems reasonable and interesting. They wouldn't really have culture but I suppose one that lives to be old enough would amass great knowledge over time....
Not sure if I can do this or not but if I can. I give my approval.

| I approve of it as well. Very good idea. ^^
I wasn't very clear on what it took to get it ratified, but I think with as small as the RP Council is, a 100% vote is neccessary. I don't think anyone will have any problems though. =)

| Im a bit more hesitant to give the stamp of approval, but considering my disposition to most things thats to be expected. Waiting till Midget posts his decision before I come to a conclusion.
I would say a few things though before anything else however. Considering the danger of these creatures as well as the fear they would raise, there wouldn't be many of them, yes? Most peasants would occassionally see them in the forests and such, and there would be very few humans considering they would either be driven out or killed (either by peasants with fire or some kind of government/religious organisation?). Also, would the mages and other guilds such as alchemists be interested?

| Well, as I said, there are few humanoid Ebons. Also, one of the main reasons I crafted this race is so they would pose a threat, and be used in some other event. The guilds might be interested, assuming they actually did enough research to find out what Ebons are. Personally, I figured they would be treated mainly as some superstition, and be ignored by scholars. | |

| We need a creation story as to how this started, though. Do you want to create one, Xael, or leave that to us? | |

| Er, It's really simple. The mold underwent a natural mutation that resulted in its ability to fuse with animals. Naturally, this increased its odds of survival, and the 'Ebon spores' were spread. | |

| It is.
To topic: Nice idea. This race is much more original then original reanimated/mutated things.

| I like it, but I would also like a more detailed race profile for the sake of completion.
Once that's I will betrothed my approval upon you.

| I'm saying how a fair amount of the RoKK universe is grounded in magic and divinity. Xael gave me a scientific response.
If Arcanum has taught me anything, magic and science aren't exactly the best of friends.

| But said magic and divinity is made on logical grounds. By that I mean everything is explained with reasonable explanations, rather than "it just is, leave it be". | |
