| Here is where I will post info on the more common human-form monsters. All info here is passed through rumor, so feel free to consider it in-character knowledge. Feel free to post questions in here or the questions thread about them. Do note that while they bear resemblance to certain other creatures, they are not the same. This is one of the reasons I gave them their own names; to make it clear that Lycans are not werewolves, Leeches are not vampires, and Lurkers are not zombies(well, they are undead, but don't cast them in with typical zombies, or you will regret it...) Monsters of the night: (note: there will only be one very important event in which biting will actually transform you, and it will be made painfully obvious.) - Spoiler:
Lycans:
Appearance: Half man, half wolf Element: Magma Source of power: The moon Lycans are said to be extremely fast and deadly. They attack with sharp claws and fangs to shred their opponents. They posses a fair amount of control over magma magic. They can use spells to enhance their strength. They are rumored to breathe fire.
Leeches:
Appearance: Humanoid, blue skin, noble clothes befitting the era. Element: Water Source of power: Blood Leeches are said to have incredible strength, enough to break a grizzly bear in half. They may use melee weapons or their bare hands to attack their opponents. They can control water magic with a fair bit of skill. Their spells allow them to turn their blood into rock-hard armor. According to rumor, they can turn into puddles of water and slither about, and turn their own blood into a swarm of bats to attack their enemies.
Lurkers:
Appearance: Fleshy(no bones revealed, unless you personally intervene) undead humanoids. They wear a variety of clothing, but basically you can imagine they dress like hobos. Element: Storm Source of power: Wind Lurkers are the most numerous of the creatures of the night. They using their cunning and vast intellect to trap and trick their opponents when possible. They can equip any type of weapon. Their grasp of storm magic is great and dangerous. Using their perfected spells, so long as their head remains whole, they can send electrical signals to their body using magic. Like wise, they can also re-attach limbs if given enough time through the surgical application of voltage to control their cells. They can communicate telepathically with one another. A powerful Lurker is said to even be able to split its body apart, fly it around on the wind, and then re-assemble it in an instant. Do not underestimate these slow moving creatures.
Greater beasts: These are less powerful than the creatures of the night, and their bites carry no ill effect aside from possibly poison. - Spoiler:
Trog:
Appearance: Humanoid fish. Covered in scales, webs between its abnormally long fingers and toes. Razor sharp fins out its fore-arms , back, and face. Element: Water Source of power: N/A Trogs are basically what they appear to be. They are loners and posses no magical ability. In water, they are incredibly fast and nigh-unbeatable. On land, they are basically human. They carry no weapons. In water, they will use their speed and fins to make deep gashes in their enemies. On land, they will adopt an awkward type of martial arts. Their scales are rather tough, but far from impenetrable. They have both gills and a humanoid respiratory system.
Greater Groll:(this may be better read after the lesser groll)
Appearance: The stereotypical Igor. Hunchbacked, green skinned, and a mop of hair. They are, however, quite large. They stand(hunch) eight feet tall, and have enormous muscles in their upper body. Because of their size, they can only ever wear pants. At the most. Element: Water Source of power: N/A These are grolls which have lived long enough to actually reach adolescence(~25 years, leaving a whole lot of questions that don't need to be answered). They act as pack leaders for lesser grolls. Fiercely protective of their underlings, they will go into a rage at anything that harms a lesser groll. They may, on rare occasions, wield claymores one handed. This means you may encounter one with TWO claymores. Normally, they will wield logs or throw rocks of considerable size(beach ball). It might help to think of them as toned down versions of The Incredible Hulk.
Golem:
Appearance: A humanoid rock formation. More powerful ones may contain or be made of crystals. Element: Magma Source of power: The ground Golems are usually sleeping or eating. They haven't much mind to do anything else. Except lash out at anyone that disturbs them. Or looks at them. Or gets withing 50 feet of them. They are quite violent in nature. They can use the magma element(they have complete mastery over their own body, and little over the environment), and posses great strength, making them a dangerous foe, possibly on par with a creature of the night. They attack by manipulating their body, such as launching a burst of fire from their hand, or even making a part of themselves into a grenade(They take a large piece of themselves, throw it, then turn the insides into fire(less dense magma) to pop it and send rock shards flying). However, since they lose mass with these attacks, they will rarely use them unless they have a source of rock nearby to absorb(eat). If they have no such source, they will generally form themselves into harmful shapes(usually spike related, but stronger or more experienced ones may form a blade). It is theorized that deep withing the ground, there are golems with god like power, whose battles create earthquakes and mountains. But this has yet to be proven.
Abomination:
Appearance: A humanoid skull, ribcage, and spine, a hornets rear(thorax?), stinger included, dragonfly wings, and scaly arms with vicious claws. From top of the skull to point of the stinger, it is about seven feet. Its wingspan is 6 feet. It has a snake for a tongue. Element: Storm Source of power: N/A The source of abominations in unknown. They use their decent control of storm magic to fly(thus explaining how they can have such a small wingspan) and have been known to breath lightning. Their stingers can be used without mortally wounding them. Moreover, they can shoot their stingers, and have an inexhaustible supply of them. They may also rush their opponent with their fierce claws and attempt to land a bite from their snake tongue. While hard to hit, they are brittle and a clean hit should do them in, or at least incapacitate them. Their poison is a weak paralytic.
Kamakaze(scythe wind. Kamikaze is divine wind. Just making sure theres no confusion):
Appearance: N/A Element: Storm Source of power: The Sun Kamakze are invisible birds. They have a wingspan of 14 feet. Their feathers are razor sharp, as are their beaks and talons. They eat rodents and lesser mammals, and only attack larger creatures when their nest is in danger. Unless you have confidence in your skill, you may want to turn around and leave the area if you should encounter one; they will not give chase. It's said that somewhere in the shattered coast, there is a man who excels at slaying these creatures and sells their feathers(lightly dusted for visibility) for a great price.
Lesser beasts: - Spoiler:
Sahagin:
Appearance: A shorter(3 feet tall), scrawnier version of a trog. Element:Water Source of power: N/A Sahagin will never leave the water. They have no capacity for breathing air directly. They are every bit as agile in water as trogs, and use similar attack methods, only with the addition of biting. These creatures hunt in packs, and can be quite deadly. Each one is rather weak, however, so a good strategy should be able to kill them quickly.
Lesser groll:
Appearance: The stereotypical Igor. Hunchbacked, green skinned, and with a mop of hair. They stand(hunch) 4 feet tall, and wear childrens clothes, or modified(torn) adults clothes. Element: Water Source of power: N/A Grolls inhabit streams and marshy areas. Especially near roads. They come in packs and wield knives or slings. Grolls form communities of over 200, all led by a single great groll. They are widespread however, and communicate through messengers. Usually they operate in packs of 5-10. They take their opponent by surprise by hiding in the reeds and mud of the marshes and streams. They sleep in shallow puddles of mud.
Freak:
Appearance: A foot long dragonfly with small, lizard-like arms and a primitive stinger. Element: Storm Source of power: N/A Freaks, as you may have guessed, are larval forms of abominations. They will group around abominations and help it fight by latching onto the enemy and stinging them repeatedly. However, their undeveloped stingers mortally wound them after use. Be cautious, as getting stung too much can cause heavy paralysis. They make a beeline(ha ha, I'm hilarious) for their target when they attack. This naturally led to the invention of Thera's form of baseball(if you want to know how its played, ask in the OOC/question thread).
Chika:
Appearance: N/A Element: Storm Source of power: The sun Chika are smaller cousins to kamakaze. Despite being nearly invulnerable to predation, they have retained the ancient instinct to travel in groups. They are roughly crow sized. Their groups can consist of anywhere between 50 to 100 birds. Fortunately, their mob mentality will cause them to flee should a handful be killed. With the thick swarm they are when attacking, flailing about has been proven to be the most efficient way to fight them.
Remember, these are common beasts, which people have lived to tell about. You may encounter others that have never left anyone to tell of them... | |
